We’re reaching out on behalf of French Broads Lit, a new not-for-profit literary magazine benefitting charitable organizations in Western North Carolina. FBL seeks to publish work from emerging and established authors rooted in Southern Appalachia, and our first issue, WATERLINE, is loosely centered around themes of destructive forces and human resilience, as influenced by the impacts of Hurricane Helene on our region. We are currently open for submissions of fiction, flash, and poetry.
As we continue to receive submissions for our first issue, we hope that you may be able to put us on the radar of members of your organization.
Folks can learn more about our call for submissions on our website. We are also on Duotrope and Submission Grinder. Submissions do not have to reference Hurricane Helene or WNC directly, and may fall into any genre that relates to the issue’s theme. And while we seek to focus on voices rooted in Southern Appalachia, this delineation is intentionally vague and open to the author’s interpretation—we are happy to accept submissions from writers throughout the broader South or those who have spent time in Appalachia.
